That big scary day was almost here. Max nervously chewed the collar of his pajama shirt.

Mom had always been his teacher, but now, everything would be different.

Oh, why can’t things just stay the same? Max, a very bright six-year-old complex learner with autism, faces the challenges of joining a classroom full of children for the first time. This tender story allows us a glimpse inside the complex learner who struggles with change and helps create compassion and understanding within their classmates. Why Can’t Things Just Stay the Same? by Dr. Barbara Walls is a book that should be on every classroom shelf and in every home
library.
